Mr. Avery is in his eighth year as Associate Choral Director at Westside High School. His responsibilities include directing the Concert Choir (sophomore mixed choir), Simply Irresistible (women's show choir), Voice Class, Chamber Singers (a group designed to explore choral music intended for a small ensemble) and co-directing the musicals. Mr. Avery received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002 and 2008, respectively. Before teaching at Westside, Mr. Avery taught 7-12 vocal music for two years at Logan-Magnolia Community Schools in Logan, IA. Mr. Avery also plays trombone for the Nebraska Wind Symphony and has appeared in productions at the Bellevue Little Theatre, Ralston Community Theatre, and Omaha Community Playhouse. During the summer of 2011, Mr. Avery was a cast member in the Papillion-La Vista Community Theatre's production of "The Music Man." In 2010, Mr. Avery received Westside High School’s Lundquist Award for Excellence in Teaching. |
